The Department of Health Practice (HPR) offers a range of programmes from entry level through to master’s degrees for those working in or seeking careers in the wider health and wellbeing sectors. These include the New Zealand Diploma in Enrolled Nursing, Bachelor’s degrees in Nursing, Midwifery, Medical Imaging, Graduate Certificate and Diploma Programmes and Postgraduate Certificates, Diplomas and Master’s Degrees in Health Science and Nursing. The Department is made up of highly qualified professionals, many of whom are active researchers. Programmes are offered at Manawa, the City campus and in Timaru. In September 2018, the health programmes, including nursing, moved to Manawa a new purpose-built facility in the Health Precinct / Te Papa Hauora. This is an exciting innovation where Ara is co-located with staff, students and researchers from the University of Canterbury and the Canterbury District Health Board in the Manawa building. The facility includes modern learning environments and a state-of-the-art simulation centre catering for interprofessional learning experiences and entry level students through to senior health professionals.


Prime function/purpose of the job

Manawa simulation centre is a collaborative Centre with the CDHB and University of Canterbury. The Simulation Technician assistant will work under the guidance of the Ara Simulation Lead and Ara Simulation technician to provide support and assistance with the delivery and development of all new and existing clinical skills and simulation-based learning programmes in the Centre. The role also involves the support and set up the daily technical and IT elements of all courses, using a range of supplies, technologies and equipment ensure effective utilisation of resources. The post holder will, under the direction of the Ara Simulation Lead and Simulation technician ensure effective utilisation of resources.

  • Evidence of Level 3 NCEA study
  • A current driver’ licence
  • Ability to problem solve and learn new skills
  • High attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience in the health or information technology sector
