Mahi Ngātahi | Who You Will Work With

Te Kaupeka Pūhanga | Faculty of Engineering at the University of Canterbury (UC) ranks in the top 1 per cent of universities worldwide for engineering and technology. UC is the only university in New Zealand to offer Natural Resources Engineering, Forest Engineering and Forestry Science. Our Diploma in Global and Humanitarian Engineering is also unique within Australasia. Offering nine Engineering disciplines, the Faculty also provides three majors in Product Design, as well as degrees in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics and Statistics.

Our students have access to specially designed computer laboratories and software, with dedicated teaching and research laboratories in every discipline, with first-rate equipment, testing facilities and expert technicians available.

Āu Mahi | What You Will Do

Whilst you will be based in the Faculty and reporting to the Amo Matu | Executive Dean, you will be working collaboratively with other dedicated Kaiwhakahaere Ratonga Akoranga | Academic Services Managers across the University and with Te Pātaka | UC Student hub to ensure a seamless student experience.

Guided by University regulations and UC Strategy, you will be working alongside three academic deans and will be responsible for managing Faculty-based academic administration and processes, supported by a team of Student Advisors.

You will ensure academic administration is managed in accordance with guidelines and policy, providing advice and guidance cumulating in an optimal student experience. Key information relating to the performance of programmes, supporting revision and improvements will also be part of your role. You will regularly provide advice to the Faculty on policies, regulations and practices, identifying potential impact of changes and provide potential solutions. Engagement with, and continuous improvement of, our academic quality assurance processes will be part of the role.

Experience within an academic environment will be an advantage but, regardless, you are someone who is able to demonstrate an ability to interpret and deliver on complex policies and regulations. You will be a strong problem solver who can apply existing frameworks to find solutions that enable success and identify when alternative pathways are required.

Additionally, you are excited by process improvement, reviewing systems, team leadership and working collaboratively. Without exception, you will have a high level of empathy and the ability to understand the realities our students may be experiencing.
