Kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role
By joining our current Lactation Consultant you will have specialised education and extensive experience in managing the needs and care of the breastfeeding family.
You will be a member of a multi-disciplinary health care team providing education and guidance to expecting and new families in their breastfeeding journey. You will be a valued resource for the wider staff, and serve as a community resource for breast feeding related care throughout the organization, not just in Maternal Child Health.
We are wanting to provide a lactation service across 7 days, therefore weekend work would be included. Our role is part time (0.6 FTE).

Our multi-disciplinary maternity team work alongside the pregnant people of the Hutt Valley Region as they transition through pregnancy into parenthood. We work as a team to support the successful breastfeeding journey of the new family, recognizing that everyone has specialised knowledge and areas of expertise. We embrace all diversity that makes up our community and aim to provide the best breastfeeding outcomes.
Moū – About you
We would love to welcome you into our team, some of the skills that are essential and beneficial are:
- Certified lactation consultant qualification
- Experience with Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative Standards
- An friendly personality free from biases and judgement to support diversity in the breastfeeding journey
- Able to create and maintain relationships with families quickly
- Great verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to teach others specialised breastfeeding knowledge and skills
