Join our team at Moana Pool as Lifeguard and help ensure a safe and enjoyable aquatic experience for our community in Ōtepoti Dunedin. We have multiple fixed term positions available with a variety of shifts that include mornings, evenings, and the weekend. These can be at Moana, Port Chalmers, and St Clair pool.

You will bring your positive attitude and passion for customer service, along with your ability to communicate and relate to our community including people of different age groups and cultural backgrounds.

Your responsibilities within this role will include:

  • Provide positive customer service, ensuring customers have a fun and enjoyable experience,
  • Supervise and control the use of aquatic facilities and activities,
  • Responding quickly and effectively to emergencies and/or patrons in difficulties,
  • Take all practicable steps to ensure personal safety and the safety of others,
  • Working effectively as an integral part of a team, building positive working relationships.

To be successful in this role you will have the following:

  • Be confident in the water and be able to swim 200 metres in under 6 minutes,
  • Comprehensive First Aid (Level 2)
  • Pool Lifeguard Practising Certificate (preferable but not essential),
  • The ability to work effectively as an integral part of a team
  • Be safety conscious.

Training will be given to successful applicants.

What can we offer you?

  • Salary – living wage – currently $22.75 per hour, however this is due to increase to $23.65 per hour on 1 September 2022

Aquatic Services Purpose

We will provide a safe, professional environment where everyone can participate in a fun and friendly setting whilst fulfilling their recreational and fitness needs.

All applicants will be subject to Police vetting as prescribed in the Vulnerable Children Act 2014 prior to employment.

The DCC prioritises the health, safety and wellbeing for our teams, customers, and the wider community we engage with. The DCC supports the Government vaccination programme to help protect us all against Covid-19. Applicants will be expected to provide evidence of full Covid-19 vaccination as part of our recruitment process.
