The Marketing Services team, as part of the wider External Engagement Division, plays a key role in attracting students to the University of Otago, and helps raise the organisation’s profile globally and throughout New Zealand.
We offer a range of marketing support to divisions, schools, and departments within the University and are the go-to experts for marketing strategy, design, advertising, website design, event management, content, and publications.
The External Engagement Division embraces a global outlook and leads and promotes activities to increase engagement, both nationally and internationally, and seeks to build lasting relationships with students, and other key stakeholders.

The Role / Te mahi
This exciting role within the Marketing Services team is responsible for leading a team, providing marketing content services and delivery of the University’s public-facing communications. Your team will work to provide content writing expertise for print, web, and other digital platforms to further promote the University’s brand.
You will have the opportunity to lead marketing content creation projects and use your expertise to collaborate with Divisional / Departmental leads to create interesting and dynamic content to support communications and marketing efforts for their respective areas.

Ideally, you will be an experienced writer and content developer, with proven experience coordinating development of varied content for multi-channel use within a large or complex organisation. You will be the type of person that enjoys working under pressure with multiple deadlines and project work underway.
You will manage a small team of content creators so any experience with team leadership is going to be an asset. Alternatively, you might be the type of person who is interested in beginning their leadership journey and we are confident that we have the support systems in place to ensure you succeed in making this transition in your career.
- Experience working with CMS, preferably Oracle.
- HTML and CSS skills.
- Understanding of NZ Government web standards and how they transfer into business practice.
- The ability to translate business, technical, or complex information into plain English.
Pūroko / Further details
This is a fixed term, full time position (minimum 0.8 FTE) position, initially for 12 months, with the potential for an extension.
We offer five weeks’ annual leave, a 6.75% superannuation scheme, and the ability to achieve real work/life balance.
