Our libraries could not operate without our brilliant team of Network Library Assistants, who travel around the city, working in almost all our libraries. You will need your own motorised transport and a drivers’ licence (naturally, we pay mileage). In this role you will meet many colleagues, see how our libraries serve their communities and make useful professional connections. There is plenty of variety and challenge and no two days are the same. If you are planning a library career, this is a superb first job in which to gain experience and decide your next move.

Network Library Assistants work five days a week on a rotating roster. You are guaranteed 20 hours of work a week, but if you wish, you can work up to 40 hours a week.

We’re looking for enthusiastic people who give great customer service. Your ability to find a way to help all sorts of people will enable you to promote reading and literacy, while your technological savvy will open up a world of digital information and inspiration to our customers. You are able to work in ways that give life to biculturalism.

This is a busy and physically active role with a variety of challenges, interactions and tasks which will require your resilience, adaptability, energy and initiative. We’re looking for people who love learning and our outstanding training will set you up to succeed whether you decide to stay as a Network Library Assistant or to aim for other roles within the Council.

Additional information:

Hours of work – We guarantee 20 hours for this role, however up to 40 hours is available (depending on bookings per week), x3 permanent positions
The salary range for this role is approximately $21.92 – $23.55 per hour, depending on the agreement and successful candidates skills and experience
Location – This position is based at several of our library locations.

Whilst staff working at the Christchurch City Council are not currently required to be vaccinated, applicants need to be aware that should the COVID-19 environment change, roles across the organisation will be assessed, and the requirement to be vaccinated may be reviewed.
