Waihopai Invercargill is New Zealand’s southernmost city and the heart and hub of Southland. We’re known for our lush green spaces like Queens Park, our long summer daylight hours and our local legend Burt Munro.

Our city has character, charm and a laidback atmosphere. There’s outstanding nature reserves, Ōreti Beach, the Waihōpai River, a lively restaurant scene and a sensible gridded layout with wide streets and a 10-minute drive to work.

We are in a chapter of immense growth, building a vibrant city centre and reinvigorating our culture and spaces, and this is an exciting time to join a Council that is focused on the future of our people and our city.

The Southland Mayoral Forum comprises the Mayors and Deputy Mayors of Gore and Southland District and Invercargill City Councils, along with the Chair and Deputy Chair of Environment Southland. The purpose of the Forum is to understand issues facing the whole of Southland and to advocate on behalf of the region.

The current Chair of the Forum is the Mayor of Gore District. The Forum is seeking an experienced person to provide strategic policy analysis, information and advice. You may have operated at either a Policy Advisor or Senior Policy Advisor level.

This is a part-time position working 20 per week. It goes without saying that you will have a tertiary qualification in a relevant field such as Public Policy. It is also essential that you have prior experience providing advice and support at the executive/governance level of an organisation, along with an understanding of the public sector. You’ll demonstrate an ability to analyse complex information and be well experienced in presenting this.

If you enjoy a real breadth of subject matter and sinking your teeth into issues that affect our communities, we’d like to hear from you.

At Invercargill City Council we pride ourselves on our values – positivity, respect, responsibility and above and beyond. Finding the right fit for our team is really important to us and we work hard to provide an environment reflective of these values.

All good reasons why working for ICC is a great career and lifestyle choice.
