About us
The Faculty of Engineering and IT (FEIT) at UTS is renowned for quality and industry-focus and has experienced significant growth in research income and research impact in recent years. Since its establishment in 2003, UTS Robotics Institute has demonstrated international leadership in driving research advancements in robotics and in delivering real-world solutions to key challenges facing government, industry and the wider community. Examples include autonomous grit-blasting robots for steel bridge maintenance; multi-robot systems for automated container handling; bio-inspired climbing robots for confined space inspection; Robotic co-workers for patient handling in health/aged care and for human strength augmentation in manufacturing; and autonomous robots for underground pipe inspection and condition assessment.
About the Role
Research Engineer (RE) is responsible for undertaking industry funded research projects within UTS Robotics Institute (UTS:RI), Faculty of Engineering & IT, University of Technology Sydney, Australia.
The RE will draw on their strong experience in the areas of robotics, mechatronics, electronics or mechanical design to work on externally funded projects and deliver the expected project outcomes.
In this role, you will:
- Design and manufacturing of mechatronic systems, and specialized equipment
- Design and development of custom embedded electronic circuits
- Assist in management of project resources
- Prepare, conduct and manage testing and trials, in both lab and field environments
- Assist research students
To be successful in this role, you will possess:
- Knowledge and experience in robotics, mechatronics, electronics, mechanical design and/or control
- A Bachelor’s degree, or above, in mechatronic or electronic engineering, or a related discipline
- Demonstrated capacity to work independently as part of a team
- Time and project management skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, particularly in the context of preparing comprehensive engineering documentation
