About our Team / Mō te tīma
The Applications Support group within ITS is a team of skilled IT professionals, focused on supporting and maintaining a wide range of applications and systems that power our administrative, operational, teaching and research functions used by the wider University of Otago community.
The role / Te mahi
This Senior Applications Support Administrator position plays a crucial role in supporting a portfolio of applications and systems, keeping applications current & secure and providing bespoke troubleshooting and advice to users within your client base.
As part of the wider team, you will work on routine configurations, regular / small upgrades, releases & patches, testing, and proactive monitoring of performance as well as the provisioning of data for reporting purposes.
With a focus on continuous improvement, you will perform root cause analysis to prevent recurring issues, employ automation where it makes sense to ensure operational outcomes for our customers are achieved.
- Schedule, plan and implement regular Application Upgrades and Testing.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of a suite of platforms and technologies.
- Provide effective, reliable applications support, advice and recommendations in a manner easily interpreted by stakeholders.
- Develop and support standard reporting delivered via enterprise reporting (e.g. business objects) or ad hoc request for data and reporting from stakeholders.
- Identify, investigate and resolve potential or actual application problems.
- Escalate unresolved application and system issues to the Business Analyst Group or Vendor.
- Support backup processes and implement security and disaster recovery solutions.
- Provide support, knowledge and coaching to new team members.
- Conduct end user training.
Your skills and experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako
- A working knowledge of IT systems, ideally as they relate to the University environment.
- A tertiary qualification in information technology or a business discipline.
- Good knowledge of a range of operating systems, their platforms and their network interactions.
- We pride ourselves on working as a team, so great team and interpersonal skills are essential (as well as a good sense of humour!).
- ITIL Certification is an asset.

This is a full-time permanent part time position, located in Dunedin.
We offer five weeks’ annual leave, a 6.75% superannuation scheme, and the ability to achieve real work/life balance.
