At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga | Ministry of Education, we work to provide services and support nationally, regionally and locally to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to ākonga and whānau.
We help shape the policies, settings and performance of the education system for early learning, schooling and tertiary. We do this by building relationships and understanding the needs of those who receive our services.

Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role
The Prime Minister’s Education Excellence Awards recognise and celebrate education excellence in early childhood education, primary and secondary schooling. Following two years of disruption due to Covid-19, the Awards are being reviewed with the sector and will be relaunched in 2023.
Do you enjoy working on a project from start to finish, and watching it flourish? The Senior Adviser has a unique opportunity to implement sector feedback on the Prime Minister’s Education Excellence Awards and lead a relaunch in 2023. Our marketing partner has been supporting the review and will work alongside you to deliver the 2023 Awards. This includes preparation for entry, marketing and communications, entry processing, judging, filming, website management and the Awards ceremony itself.
This role sits in within a team that provides communications and marketing support for teacher supply. The team is the point of contact with our marketing partner and works with them to ensure successful delivery of an ongoing programme of work. This will include managing the associated budget.

Mōhou ake | About you
We are looking for someone who has previous marketing and events management experience. You will have excellent project and relationship management skills as well as a proven track record working with different vendors and internal and external stakeholders.
You will also offer:
- knowledge and experience working with a range of communications formats such as videos and websites
- previous government experience or education sector experience (desirable)
- the ability to manage, maintain and keep budgets for the project on track
- excellent time management, resilience, and drive to get the job done
- strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently
- astute risk management
- a great work ethic and high level of professionalism
- excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with others to deliver outcomes.
- the ability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangatawhenuatanga.

About our group and team
Te Puna Ohumahi Mātauranga | Education Workforce is a key part of the Ministry.
We develop the education workforce strategy, including a focus on specialist services, employment relations, pay equity, education payroll, supply and scholarship functions. Our group ensures the system has the right people in the right places at the right time for early learning, kōhanga reo, schools and kura. We have links to tertiary education organisations, in particular wānanga, iwi and Māori, peak bodies and others, in the co-design of solutions to workforce challenges, such as provision of teachers with te reo and mātauranga Māori knowledge and Pacific languages.
The Teacher Supply team works to ensure New Zealand has the right teachers in the right place at the right time, across the country. The Teacher Supply programme is responsible for the design and implementation of a range of initiatives and projects, and interfaces with a wide range of stakeholders and functional groups within and beyond the Ministry.
In the last year we delivered a suite of initiatives to respond to COVID-19; providing wellbeing support payments to new principals; re-starting initiatives to support recruitment of overseas trained teachers and to attract teachers back into teaching.
