Āu Mahi | What You Will Do
Utilising your experience within large and complex organisations you are a seasoned software developer. You will work in an established project team developing software to improve the UC experience for both students and staff. Your team develops modern cloud-based software applications, and as well as bring your expertise in software development you will have the opportunity to develop your skills in coaching and mentoring and explore modern serverless cloud development. You will participate in detailed design sessions and take responsibility to build innovative software that complies with coding standards, and you will also be involved in working with the wider SWE group to constantly refine and improve our ways of working.
Mōu | Who You Are
You will have a minimum of 7 years’ software development experience and a relevant degree, with experience in more than one programming language. Ideally you will have experience in a complex commercial or government workplace, and you will be comfortable in a modern cloud-based technical environment. You will be knowledgeable in designing and developing web-based software and supporting more junior programmers in coming up to speed. You will have worked in agile teams and be comfortable assisting with taking requirements and turning these into development stories and tasks. You will be familiar with common development and integration patterns, including API & event-based designs.
Software developers at UC can expect to use a variety of languages, frameworks, and tools throughout their career. For the initial project, experience with many of the following would be an advantage:
- Front-end web application development:
- Either React, Angular or Vue
- Typescript
- CSS / SASS
- Responsive UI/UX design
- Back-end application/web service development
- Python (preferably also Django and Django REST Framework)
- Nodejs
- PostgreSQL
- Ideally low-code development with OutSystems (especially workflows)
- Application design patterns, either (or both) front and API design, as well as modern integration design patterns and technologies
- Ensuring software quality with techniques like unit testing as well as end to end test technologies, such as Cypress.
- Docker containerisation
- Source control with Git
- Public cloud application development use, with either AWS or Azure, especially including
- Container & Serverless development and deployment
- Infrastructure as Code & cloud deployment pipelines
