To fulfil that role we need great people on board, and right now we are looking for a highly motivated and experienced lawyer to join our Risk, Legal and Assurance Team. While we prefer full time applicants we will consider part time availability.

Ideally the successful candidate will have experience practising in a local government environment but this is not a pre-requisite.

POSITION PURPOSE:
To provide and deliver high quality and relevant legal services support and advice.
KEY RELATIONSHIPS
Internal – Functional Managers, Operational Managers and Professional Leads.
External – Legal firms, central government and local government personnel, contractors and consultants.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Provides robust and practical internal legal advice and well researched advice on relevant legislative changes to a range of staff.
Liaises with external providers to ensure the provision of effective and value adding services and advice to the Council as required.
Ensures that legal delegation processes are promoted and well managed to guide managers to work within their assigned accountabilities/ delegations.
Actively ensures that legislative requirements and Council policies and procedures are fulfilled, particularly in relation to all key relevant legislation.
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:
Developed annually and form part of performance and team plans.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:
Degree in Law.
Current New Zealand practising certificate.
Minimum three years’ experience in providing legal services, ideally with some in a local government environment but this is not required.
