Are you passionate about the importance of learning to swim, customer-centred and enjoy mentoring and coaching others?

Here at the Christchurch City Council, our Recreation & Sports Unit provides Christchurch’s primary recreational facilities and plays a leading role in fitness and aquatics. This includes the valuable learning to swim programme which teaches children a precious life skill.

Our Swim Education Supervisors are the first point of contact for customers on the poolside and act as a rich source of information on all areas of the programme for the wider team. You’re the face of our group and will be proactive in engaging with parents, teachers and children, providing a fun and friendly atmosphere.

As a seasoned professional, you’re at home in the water and have the experience teaching babies through to adults, as from time to time, you’ll need to jump into the water to cover for staff. Acting as the right hand for the Team Leader, you’ll be proactive when it comes to finding cover for the team and keeping the programme operational. This includes training and mentoring of new staff, overseeing classes to ensure consistent lesson plan delivery, making sure the children are assessed correctly and are in the correct class for their swimming ability.

Your relationship-building skills alongside your technical experience will be a real asset as you engage with our customers, showing a general interest in their journey while opening the doors for them to engage our facilities and services in other ways. You are approachable, upbeat and have the passion to get involved in the journey of your customer, creating a lasting love of the water for the children.

Note:
Successful applicants must hold a Comprehensive First Aid Certificate and Swim Education Qualification.
