Āu Mahi | What You Will Do

As a Systems Manager and Developer, you will be part of a small team that administers and runs the Department’s computer systems, and develop software to support the needs of students and staff specific to the Department. In order to support teaching and research you will ensure the cutting-edge, multi-platform computing resources are reliable, flexible and available to meet the unique needs of the staff and students.

Utilising your experience in system design and architecture you will create or customise specialist solutions, and you enjoy keeping up to date with cutting-edge trends and look for ways to improve services. You will work alongside other technical support staff and external entities so you will be comfortable working with a wide range of people.

Mōu | Who You Are

You will have bachelor’s degree with Honours in Computer Science or Software Engineering, along with a minimum 6 years’ computer systems administration experience, preferably gained in large networked, multi-user, multi-platform (particularly Linux) environments.

With software development experience, including the writing of technical documentation, you will have diverse and practical knowledge of programming fundamentals, with substantial background in scripting and various programming languages as used in the department.

You will be familiar with administering and programming modern web technologies and will be competent in using and troubleshooting advanced computer software.

You will have an understanding of the academic environment and appreciation of the role of a department’s technical support team. Relational database skills, including database administration and programming would be beneficial for this role.
