We are currently seeking an experienced Teacher Capability Mentor to join our Culture & Capability team at Cremorne.

The Role:

The Teacher Capability Mentor will develop new educators, as part of our ‘Teachers in Training’, initiative, who are experienced, talented industry experts, as they transition from their vocational trade to teaching in the first 12 months of their teaching careers.

The purpose of the Mentor role is to ensure teachers develop excellent training, assessment, interpersonal skills, and professional practices during their first 12 months. This will be achieved by working with teachers one-on-one and in groups. The mentor will also coach and guide the teachers’ direct line manager, supporting them to provide effective on the-the-job supervision and training using BKIs supervision model. With a focus on supporting teachers to thrive, the Mentor will also assist teachers to make the transition from industry specialist to a teacher in Vocational Education and Training (VET) and build the teachers capability to engage and inspire students in their learning and training positively and effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The role is designed to mentor and coach teachers who are scholarship holders in the Teacher Incentive Scheme Program (TISP), developing their competencies and confidence in teaching and assessment practices, and providing career transition mentoring
  • Develops teachers’ professional practices. This includes reflective practice, growth mindset, coaching skills, partnering with their students in their learning, student-teacher relationships, responding to complex student needs, and personal self-care and wellbeing
  • Leads the design, embedding and continuous improvement of the mentoring program within BKI’s ‘Pathways to Teaching program’. Collaborates and shares expert knowledge in mentoring program design to support other mentoring programs beyond the TISP.
  • Proven ability to use a range of learning modes. This may include one-on-one coaching/mentoring, group coaching, peer review and observational feedback, sharing relevant learning resources and examples.
  • Supports evaluation of the TISP in achieving it’s intended outcomes and identifies and leads opportunities to improve the ‘Pathways to Teaching program’ for future new teachers.
  • Role models and embeds a positive education-based approach into the mentoring program. This will include a strengths-based approach, creating a strong trust-based relationship and learning alliance.
  • Supports the operational management of the Teacher Incentive Scholarship Program

Qualification:

  • Qualifications in education or training, or significant experience in adult education or training
  • Mentoring/Coaching qualifications or experience in formal or structured coaching and/or mentoring programs
  • Working knowledge of teaching and quality frameworks, State and National standards and principles
  • Successful applicants will also have to provide:
  • A current Working with Children Check
  • A current Federal Police Check
  • Proof of COVID Vaccination
  • Certified Right to Work document – Passport/Visa/Citizenship or Birth Certificate
