KiwiRail’s Tranz Alpine and Coastal Pacific train service offer a spectacular scenic rail journey through the heart of the South Island. We work hard to deliver our passengers a trip of a lifetime, by ensuring a consistently efficient, friendly and comprehensive service.
Te whiwhinga mahi – The Opportunity
In this 6 month fixed term role, you will ensure that all our passengers enjoy an outstanding experience while travelling on our services. You will be responsible for delivering a first-rate food and beverage service, and providing a prompt and professional service to our passengers at all times.
This role involves shift work and is based in Christchurch. Train Attendants work varying rostered shifts, including on weekends and on public holidays. The roles will go right through until April 2023 to ensure we can provide the best customer experience during our busy season!

You will come from a background in either hospitality or customer service experience, and have a strong ability to communicate with people from all walks of life. You will have good level of physical fitness, as this role requires long days working on your feet on a moving train and lifting heavy luggage. You’ll also have an understanding of numbers and be able to accurately handle cash and conduct stock takes.
Your positive, can-do attitude will see you go far in this role. You’ll happily go the extra mile and nothing will be too much trouble. You will enjoy interacting with our passengers, many of whom are tourists from all corners of the world.

- You have the ability to multitask and problem solving and can do these things on the fly if an issue was to arise

- You don’t get flustered under pressure easily and can remain calm and focused in potentially stressful situations
- Don’t want to take your work home with you – at the end of your shift, that is where your working day ends

- You have a positive can-do attitude to ensure customer needs are met
