He kōrero mō mātou | About Us

Mahea is a collaboration between Te Taiwhenua o Heretaunga, Kahungunu Executive, Whatever It Takes Trust and Emerge Aotearoa. These four organisations have partnered to deliver Mahea to rangitahi across the Hawke’s Bay region.

Mahea has been designed to expand the continuum of support, treatment and therapy available for young people experiencing distress and promote early detection and intervention to prevent the escalation of mental health issues for rangitahi aged 12-24.

He kōrero mō te tūranga | The Role

The Te Kai Ringahora Rangatahi role is a very exciting and important opportunity to support rangatahi through utilising your own lived experience of mental health and/or addictions.

You’ll contribute to positive outcomes for youth and work in a collaborative partnership with other members of the Mahea team to empower, motivate and build the resilience of rangatahi/youth and support their journey towards achieving Mauri Ora.

This position’s salary scale is set by pay equity and dependant on qualification level pays between $22.10 and $27.43 per hour.

He kōrero mōu | About You

For our team its vital that you have lived through your own experiences of mental distress and/or addiction. You’ll bring your own knowledge and experience of drug and alcohol addiction or mental health distress and be able to utilise this in your work to support others – please tell us about your journey in your cover letter.

Someone who would fit well within this team would be a person who is energetic, resilient, vibrant, confident and a great team player. You’ll be a natural when it comes to being able to connect with youth and support them to move forward on their journey to recovery. You’ll use your non-judgemental attitude and belief to encourage clients to change and grow.

You will ideally have experience in working with youth within a mental health/addiction recovery setting and/or a Level 4 Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (or higher) qualification is desirable, however; if you’re passionate about supporting youth and you’re willing to work towards a qualification we’ll support you as much as we can.

You’ll be culturally respectful and non-judgemental – a strong understanding of Māori and Pacifica cultures is preferred.
