The Civil Aviation Authority is the regulatory arm of our organisation and the Aviation Security Service is the nationwide provider for aviation security.

About the role

The Aviation Security Service (part of the Civil Aviation Authority) is recruiting for Aviation Security Officers at Dunedin Airport. We have multiple positions available. Aviation Security Officers work on a 6-days on, 3-days off roster, and work 6.5 hours per shift. As the hours for this role are determined by the operational demands such as flight schedules at each station, start times across the six-day shift cycle will vary.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Carry out pre-flight security screening and hold baggage screening of departing passengers and their baggage * Perform mobile, foot and static patrols in assigned areas * Carry out hazard inspections of runways and other operational areas including navigational installations * Liaise with other airport agencies We are looking for people who enjoy working on their feet in a varied role. Successful candidates will be strong communicators, who are able to communicate with people from all walks of life. You will need to be a problem solver, have good situational awareness and excellent time management skills.

NZQA Level 4 training for the role is undertaken and ongoing development opportunities are offered. Successful candidates will be required to undertake a paid training course working 8.5 hours a day upon starting their role, and part of this training will require you to attend two 2-week courses located in either Christchurch or Auckland.

What do you need?

  • Must be willing to have regular Covid-19 tests and continue to be fully-vaccinated for your own health; and the health, safety and wellbeing of colleagues, friends, family and the wider community. * Must be medically and physically fit and willing to undertake a medical assessment by a licensed practitioner. * Must be able to a work shift pattern of 6 days on and 3 days off. * Must be a New Zealand citizen or resident. * Must have a full clean New Zealand driver’s licence.
