University of Otago Residential Colleges provide an extensive living-learning experience for thousands of Otago students. They blend academic support, accommodation, recreation and social activities into a vibrant and dynamic community for students and staff.
The role/Te mahi
We have two Deputy Warden positions available one in Carrington College and the other in University College. The Deputy Warden is responsible to the College Warden and as a key senior member of staff, you will assist with the provision of a positive collegiate experience for residents.
We are seeking a great communicator who can support the academic ambitions and pastoral needs of residents, guide the Community Collegiate Leader team and oversee the events and activities programme.

Our ideal candidate will:-
- Be professionally and personally resilient and capable of handling (sometimes) difficult and complex situations.
- Have experience working with young adults in a leadership capacity.
- Be knowledgeable and have experience in pastoral care and/or community development.
- Have well developed organisational skills and initiative.
- Be able to effectively coordinate the college academic and tutorial programme.
- Deputise in the absence of the College Warden.
- Be trusted to act in a calm manner.
An understanding of, and empathy for, students commencing University is fundamental to this role. Experience in the tertiary sector would be a distinct advantage.

These are permanent full-time roles that will require regular rostered evening and weekend hours of work.
These positions are live-in and require a high level of commitment, including being rostered on-call. Accommodation is provided within the Colleges and the total remuneration package for these positions include full compensation for all accommodation costs.
