What You Will Do
Our Te Kaupeka Oranga | Faculty of Health team is looking for two new colleagues to join us with our rapidly growing undergraduate and postgraduate Health programmes. The direction of our Health programmes aligns strongly with emerging global trends in health and wellbeing, and the New Zealand Health Strategy. Our work is grounded in an inclusive approach to health, focusing on issue of equity by expanding participation of women, Māori and Pasifika, people who experience disabilities, and those who have traditionally been underserved and underrepresented in health, and in the wider context of working with individuals, communities and health organisations. You will have the expertise and passion to grow our capability in these strategic directions, and will be appointed at the rank of Lecturer, Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor depending on your experience and demonstrated expertise.
Position 1 – Public health: This successful candidate will have a strong grounding in public health principles and scholarship. They will be dynamic in their teaching and demonstrate the ability to lead development and delivery of undergraduate courses in Global Health and Health Programme Planning and Evaluation. The desired candidate will contribute to additional team teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate level.
Position 2 – Health promotion/health behaviour change: The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge of the theory and practice of working with individuals and communities to transform health. They will have a background in health promotion, health education, health psychology, health communication or a related discipline. They will be passionate about providing students with applied, transformative learning opportunities and growing the confidence of students to work with communities through fostering applied skills such as group facilitation, asset-based community development or motivational interviewing. The ideal candidate will be familiar with current health policies and practices in Aotearoa New Zealand and demonstrate cultural responsiveness.
Who You Are
We are seeking two full-time continuing academics from Pūkenga/ Pūkenga Matua/ Ahonuku, Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor within the Te Kaupeka Oranga | Faculty of Health. The successful candidates will be an emerging researcher (Lecturer), an accomplished researcher (Senior Lecturer) or a highly accomplished researcher (Associate Professor).
Applicants will need to demonstrate the following characteristics:
- Hold a doctoral degree in health sciences, or other relevant discipline.
- Relevant and effective university teaching experience in their specialist area(s), including undergraduate and postgraduate. Ability to both develop and lead undergraduate and post graduate courses in their area(s) of expertise.
- Competency and confidence in bicultural practice, including a commitment to upholding the values, tikanga, kawa and traditions as guided by Ngāi Tūāhuriri, the mana whenua. Ability in te reo Māori me āna tikanga would be an advantage.
- Expertise to enhance our programme goals towards equity in health outcomes.
- Applicants at the senior lecturer and associate professor levels should have a record of successful supervision of Masters and/or Doctoral students.
- An appropriate research publication history, and plans for future research, grant funding and publication in the area of health and consistent with appointment at Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/ Associate Professor rank.
The successful applicants will have opportunities for international conference travel to support their research and teaching activities. They will have the opportunity to network with international leaders in Health Sciences and a range of disciplines through the University’s unique Erskine Fellowship and Canterbury Fellowship Scheme (which enables the University to host world leading academics) and through the University’s academic staff exchange programmes with Oxford and Cambridge Universities in the UK.
