We serve a wide range of families of different ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Children attend from many suburbs of Wellington, therefore the kindergarten feeds into many schools in the local area.
We are a Full Year Kindergarten, licensed for 42 children who attend for 6 hours each day. You will join our team of 4 other teachers. The teaching team is hardworking, reflective and where collaborative practice and open communication is highly valued.
This is a .6 position (24 hours per week) worked over five days as follows:
Mon (5hrs) 8.00am to 1.30pm (including 1/2hr unpaid break)
Tues (5hrs) 11.00am to 4.30pm (including 1/2hr unpaid break)
Wed (5hrs) 11.00am to 4.30pm (including 1/2hr unpaid break)
Thur (5hrs) 8.00am to 1.30pm (including 1/2hr unpaid break)
Fri (4hrs) 10.45am to 2.45pm
All teachers take leadership roles for internal evaluation, planning and working with whānau. Due to the diverse community that accesses Newtown Kindergarten there is a Community Navigator and the teaching team is involved in a lot of one-to-one conversation with whānau and incorporating home cultures programme and events. Newtown Kindergarten does not have a committee/whānau group, so teachers undertake the responsibility to lead and participate in fundraising, general ground maintenance and termly events.

- has an ability to engage in effective self-review processes and contribute to team goals with a view to ongoing improvement and is solutions focussed
- has a strong commitment to working alongside and supporting whānau
- has strong skills in supporting children’s social and emotional competencies
This position commences Tuesday, 10 May 2022 or as negotiated.
