About Us:

We are an established NGO providing counselling services to tamariki, whanau and individuals affected by family violence, historical trauma and a broad range of other issues. We have been undergoing a shift in our team and culture over recent months and moving forward we are working together as a team to co-design how we can best serve our clients across a range of contracts and modalities. We welcome your input into this development.

We can also offer the opportunity to undergo training and development in mediation and group facilitation or to contribute to the development of others if this is your strong point.

About the Role:

The Non-Violence Programme aims to prevent family violence through working with perpetrators of family violence, men and women, to understand their accountability, to reflect on their own life experiences to better manage their behaviour so that they can also make conscious choices to change it for the better.

This is a programme of therapeutic intervention with key points to engage on however we expect that your delivery will be unique to you and your style of working. The team work closely together and are supported with regular supervision and an NVP focused Project Lead.

We have two roles available, a permanent role offering flexibility around working hours and a fixed term maternity cover position, both based from our New Plymouth sites with some travel to Hawera.

About You:

You will be a skilled and experienced practitioner with a strengths based approach, integrity in your mahi, strong communication skills and commitment to working safely and respectfully with vulnerable people.

You will:

  • Have experience of working with both adult perpetrators (primary role) and adult victims
  • Be experienced and adept at managing the risks related to family violence
  • Have a tertiary qualification in social work, counselling, psychology or related discipline
  • Be familiar with working in culturally diverse environments and with Te Tiriti O Waitangi
  • Be proactive and have good time management and computer skills
  • Manage a busy caseload and the associated administrative requirements.
