The Department of Health Practice offers a range of programmes from entry level through to master’s degrees for those working in or seeking careers in the wider health and wellbeing sectors. These include the New Zealand Diploma in Enrolled Nursing, Bachelor’s degrees in Nursing, Midwifery, and Medical Imaging, Competence Assessment Programme (CAP) Graduate Certificate and Diploma programmes and Post Graduate Certificates, Diplomas and Master’s degrees in Health Science and Nursing. The Department has over 1000 full-time equivalent students and a staff of over 120 highly qualified professionals, many of whom are active researchers.

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi – About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team right at the beginning of a new era for nursing education. The major focus of this role is working in clinical practice as a Clinical Lecturer/Academic Liaison Nurse with students in the Bachelor of Nursing, New Zealand Diploma in Enrolled Nursing and Competence Assessment Programmes. There are opportunities to work in simulation and/or theory course and the hours of work are usually flexible and worked across the academic year.

The successful applicant will work with a team of staff who are experienced nurse educators. Most clinical lecturers are assigned to a Dedicated Education Unit (DEU) where they will work with students across the different programmes and at different levels.

This role requires a nurse who is passionate about clinical practice and has an excellent reputation as a professional. This role may suit an experienced educator or someone new to nursing education who is seeking a change in the direction of their career.

Duties:

  • Teaching in theory and clinical courses in the nursing programmes in the department
  • Providing assessment and feedback to students
  • Setting and communicating learning objectives, updating teaching resources and media
  • Contributing to internal/external communities
  • Participating in research projects
  • Developing and implementing flexible teaching and learning methods, including the use of learning technologies

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako – Skills/experience:

  • A minimum of three years full-time clinical experience as a registered nurse
  • Clinical and educational qualifications and skills that support teaching of general nursing
  • A broad range of clinical and communication skills
  • Vision, innovation and commitment to nursing education and practice
  • The ability to contribute to the research outputs
