The Team: What we do

Opportunities now exist for Occupational Therapist/s

to work within the inpatient-s services at Burwood Hospital

In these roles you will work with patients to enable

optimum safety and function during this phase of their recovery.

You-ll work with clients from diverse social and

cultural backgrounds and need to bring your holistic skills, enthusiasm and

passion to achieve the best outcome for your patients.

You will need to demonstrate your excellent communication

skills and build rapport with patients and their whanau.

Burwood Hospital offers the opportunity to be part of

both the ward team and the wider Occupational Therapy Department and take the

opportunities to access professional development through, in-service training

and clinical supervision.

The Roles: Where you fit in

Burwood

Orthopaedics – 1. 4 FTE (1.0 FTE + 0.4 FTE ) – Occupational Therapist – Surgical

and Rehabilitation

This post includes work

in preadmissions , Surgical Orthopaedics , Orthopaedic Rehabilitation and

outpatient assessments.

With two positions available

these would suit an individual with experience in working with older people and

their health needs and understands rehabilitation principals for this patient

group and /or a clinician in their first years of practice

Burwood

Orthopaedics 0.5 FTE ( 20 hours ) Allied

Health Assistant

This post includes work

with Occupational Therapists supporting interventions in preadmissions , Surgical Orthopaedics ,

Orthopaedic Rehabilitation and outpatient assessments. As an Allied Health

Assistant, you will have direct contact with the patients, following rehabilitation plans and supporting the running of the

Occupational Therapy department.

There is an expectation

that the AHA will take on new learning and NZQA Level 3 opportunities – all

supported by OPH and Rehabilitation

Burwood

Hospital 1.0 FTE ( Rotational ) + 0.5

FTE ( Permanent ) – Occupational

Therapist -Spinal Injuries Unit

As one of two national

spinal units in New Zealand , we support people living with Spinal Injuries

from Invercargill to New Plymouth . This role includes work within the

inpatient setting , with development of skills in the outpatient , setting ,

clinics and outreach

Wheelchair and Seating

credentialing from MOH is advantageous

for this role, or being open to obtaining this skill during this appointment.

We are now able to offer

a permanent rotation starting within the Burwood Spinal Unit and rotating to

other areas of the OPH and Rehabilitation at the end of this term. This is an

excellent opportunity to have experience in a national service for a period of

up to a year and secure a permanent post within this division

In these roles, you will be responsible for:

  • Undertaking Occupational Therapy assessments

and developing and implementing treatment plans, considered within a

holistic approach; * Providing education and resource, where

appropriate, to the client and their family/whanau, as well as the wider

team; * Prioritising, organising and managing a case

load while allocating time appropriately; * Engaging in service delivery reviews and

associated quality improvement initiatives; * Providing clinical leadership for junior

staff, Allied Health assistants and students. Your skills will include:

  • Comprehensive clinical assessment and

problem-solving skills, * Ability to work autonomously and

collaboratively, to develop positive interpersonal relationships, and work

flexibly within the team, with a team player attitude * Excellent skills working within teams and

maintaining relationships with service providers in the community; * Excellent communication and interpersonal

skills, to liaise effectively with health professionals both within the

in-patient services and in the community * Strong clinical reasoning skills and use of

evidence informed practice * Effective time management and organisational

skills * Strong prioritisation skills and developing experience

with complex discharge planning * A positive attitude and enthusiasm for this

area of work * Enable NZ Equipment accreditation or

willingness to obtain; * Registration with the NZ Occupational Therapy

Board and current Annual Practicing Certificate (or eligibility to

obtain); * As local travel is required, a full
