0.6 FTE / 48 hours per fortnight

At Taranaki District Health Board (Taranaki DHB) we serve a population of approximately 124,380 people, of which 19.8% identify as Māori, residing within the geographical area that is described as ‘Paraninihi ki Waitōtara, Waitōtara ki Taipakē’; spanning from the white cliffs of Pukearuhe to the Waitōtara River in Ngā Rauru and from the Waitōtara river to Taipakē which is the most southern point of the Ngā Rauru iwi.

The Pou Haumanu – Māori and Equity Social Work Lead is a member of Te Pā Harakeke – Māori Health and Equity DIrectorate. The role is responsible for;

  • providing expert day to day clinical leadership
  • facilitating a coordinated and collaborative equity focus to reduce inequities and improve health outcomes for Māori
  • providing leadership and guidance to continuously develop, implement, and refine Tiriti o Waitangi-led and pro-equity approaches
  • ensure the provision of quality and safe services and strengthen responsiveness to Māori.
  • working across the provider arm with patients and whānau, leaders, managers, staff, and with iwi and Māori health providers,
  • achieve iwi hauora aspirations and the Taranaki DHBs aspiration for accelerated, accumulative, and radical improvements in Māori health and the achievement of Pae Ora.

We are looking for:

  • Relevant Social Work qualification.
  • Registration with the Social Workers Registration Board.
  • Has at least 5 years leadership experience and is able to work in effective partnerships.
  • Participates confidently in te ao Māori and has a working knowledge of te reo Māori and tikanga Māori.
  • Knowledge of national, regional, and local strategies and plans relating to health
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently, part of a team, and across departments.
  • Understands the dimensions of Māori health and health practices and can apply kaupapa Māori models of health in practice.
  • Able to build networks and relationships throughout the Taranaki DHB, primary care services, and across sectors
