About the role

Primary Purpose of Position:

  • At a local and regional level provide a technical lead and/or project management delivery role in transportation planning for network related and capital projects.
  • Across the New Zealand business provide high end technical expertise in transportation planning, traffic modelling and project development.
  • Build and maintain strong external client relationships and contribute to the strategic growth of the transportation planning sector by identifying and securing related business opportunities with key and emerging clients to grow Stantec’s market share.
  • Lead/Manage transportation projects, to ensure that outcomes in terms of budget, profit, timeliness, technical and quality standards meet both client and Stantec expectations.
  • Leading and facilitating a way of working within the team that builds a constructive and collaborative environment where different thinking and ideas are encouraged.

Key Accountabilities:

Technical Capabilities

  • Provide technical leadership on a range of transport capital projects through developing, scoping, leading and undertaking business case studies and project work.
  • Provide technical expertise, direction, and coaching in the scoping of, leading and undertaking business case studies for transport projects, including progressing to become a Stantec specialist in this area.
  • Provide technical capabilities in transport planning, in such knowledge areas as business cases, economic evaluation, modelling, public transport and strategic transport planning.
  • Provide advice, solutions and project outcomes that create value for clients and provide Stantec with a differentiator in the market.
  • Lead the team to deliver smart and innovative outcomes that contribute to the project objectives.
  • Plan, program and coordinate assigned projects as Project Manager or Project Technical Lead, to deliver the agreed outputs on budget, on time and to quality standards.
  • Provide technical and professional leadership /mentoring to intermediate/junior team members with a view to succession planning and building overall technical capability of the team.
  • Maintain appropriate technical and professional qualifications.
  • Complete all work in line with Stantec Core Values and in accordance with the Stantec Quality Systems and Project Quality Procedures.
  • Champion the use of digital engineering tools and techniques.

Client Relationships

  • Develop strong working relationships with Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency, Local Authority and Private Sector clients by delivering the highest level of service and understanding their respective business drivers.
  • Proactively liaise with clients to ensure that their requirements are met and that any concerns are heard and addressed.
  • Develop new client relationships to help expand Stantec’s market share.

Business Development

  • Prepare expressions of interest, proposals and marketing initiatives.
  • Involvement on specific business development actions with other relevant Stantec staff.

Qualifications:

About you

  • Bachelor degree, in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Registered as a chartered professional engineer, or have appropriate experience to be ready to apply for registration.
  • Approximately 15 years’ professional experience in the consulting and engineering industry.
  • Expert technical specialist able to maintain and promote high professional standards in the field of transportation planning.
  • Flexibility to work for periods of time outside of Wellington, including overseas as discussed and agreed with Team Leaders or Group Managers.
