About our group and team
Te Mahau | Te Pae Aronui (Operations and Integration) is the key interface between the Ministry and early learning providers, kōhanga reo, schools and kura.
The Early Childhood Education (ECE) Resourcing and Operations group is an important part of Te Pae Aronui. The group is responsible for the operational funding, operational policy, regulation and planning and provider assurance for all aspects of early childhood education.
The ECE Operational Funding Team within the ECE Resourcing and Operations team manages the delivery of operational funding to over 5,000 ECE services, kōhanga reo and playgroups in New Zealand as well as providing high quality advice and support for Ministers and sector stakeholders.
Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role
The Senior Advisor Operational Funding is responsible for ensuring that correct funding entitlements are delivered to early childhood service, kōhanga reo, playgroups and other service providers in a timely and accurate manger. The senior adviser will deal with complex enquiries and issues that require specialised knowledge and understanding for resolution.
The successful applicants will play a key role within the team by:
- Supporting funding payment processes for all ECE services nationally
- Providing high quality data analysis to support effective planning and decision-making
- Contributing to a range of project initiatives to ensure quality tools, processes and systems are developed to support the Ministry and the ECE sector
A key function of our work is to ensure the funding rules are well understood and that early learning services know what is expected of them to comply with the funding handbook and ensure New Zealand’s youngest group of learners thrive.

We are looking for someone who can work collaboratively with key internal and external stakeholders to help design and implement funding systems changes into our operating model.
You will also offer:
- Experience working within the education sector and/or other government funding settings
- Strong communication skills
- Great analytical skills to support effective planning and decision-making
