Rewrite the rules with Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu: An exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Environmental Planner.

We are looking for an experienced planner with the drive, skills, and ability to:

  • Lead and deliver planning solutions that work for Ngāi Tahu whānui: “mō tātou, ā, mō kā uri ā muri ake nei” (for us and our children after us).
  • Work with and support Papatipu Rūnanga and their regional environmental entities to protect and build on the outcomes of the Ngāi Tahu Claims Settlement Act 1998.
  • Make a professional difference in a wide range of statutory and non-statutory planning processes across the Ngāi Tahu takiwā (area). This includes local government planning and policy frameworks, Department of Conservation plans, national proposals, large resource consents and collaborative water management initiatives.

This role is part of the Te Ao Tūroa (Natural Environment) team, within the wider Strategic Relationships Group of Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu. The main function of Te Ao Tūroa includes resource management planning, state of the environment, heritage protection, tribal properties, the management of taonga resources and mahinga kai. The kaupapa supports Papatipu Rūnanga and Ngāi Tahu Whānui to protect and gain nourishment from the natural environment and plays a vital role in the expression of Ngāi Tahutanga.


We are seeking a candidate with
:

  • A minimum of 3-5+ years’ of professional work experience with a demonstrated track record in planning, law, policy or resource management work
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • A relevant tertiary degree
  • A full drivers licence


Ideally, you will also
:

  • Have knowledge of Ngāi Tahu and/or relationships with iwi Māori
  • Have experience working within local government or related work
  • Be eligible for relevant professional memberships.

The successful applicant will have a strong affinity for the needs and aspirations of our ultimate stakeholders, Ngāi Tahu Whānui. Alongside this, you will have an understanding of, or an eagerness to learn and engage with our Ngāi Tahu values and te reo Māori. Ka tika!
