The Organisation

Auckland Kindergarten Association has a long history in New Zealand in the Early Childhood Education sector, having been established in 1908 with the opening of our kindergarten at Freemans Bay. We now have 107 kindergartens and four KiNZ centres, supported by our shared services staff at our office in Queen Street, forming our organisation, with a total of just under 1000 staff.

The Kindergarten

St Heliers Kindergarten is a fun loving, safe and challenging environment. Our beautiful outdoor environment allows for both space and quiet areas that promote better learning outcomes for children. We are looking for someone who enjoys working with children, is reliable, hardworking and a team player with a cheerful disposition.

The Role

St Heliers Kindergarten is currently looking for a permanent, part time Teacher Aide (10 hours per week), to join our dedicated team.

In this role, you will assist the teaching team with the running of the routine with the children and maintenance of the learning environment, including sorting and tidying of the resources and indoor and outdoor areas to ensure that our kindergarten remains a beautiful environment for the children. We are looking for someone who has lots of energy and enthusiasm, and is a cheerful self-starter with a strong sense of initiative. Tasks will be varied, so you will need to be flexible and adaptable.

It is also important that you have strong ICT skills, and are able to support teachers with getting their folders and documentation ready.

Ideal Candidate will

• have previous experience working with young children and families, ideally in a Kindergarten or Early Childhood Education setting
• have excellent and supportive interpersonal communication skills – including an ability to listen fully and carefully, to explain and create understanding; to build and maintain positive relationships; and to relate to a wide range of people
• understand the need for flexibility, adaptability, tolerance and perseverance
• have commitment to provision of a high-quality AKA kindergarten service, including a respect for our philosophy of learning through play
• have experience and commitment in working as part of a team as well as individually, and in undertaking wider Kindergarten tasks as assigned
• enjoy attention to detail
• understand the importance of confidentiality
• have the ability to align with and promote AKA mission and values
