Permanent position working a minimum of 42.5 hours per week, Monday to Sunday (rostered)

Napier City Council’s Three Waters City Operations Services team are currently seeking a new Wastewater Operator to join our team based in Napier. This is a great opportunity if you are an experienced wastewater operator or have a demonstrable mechanical and municipal wastewater pumping background. As a Wastewater Operator your role will be working in a small team carrying out the maintenance and operations on around forty wastewater pump stations, around seven storm water pump stations and a wastewater treatment plant. The team are responsible for undertaking operational checks, maintenance activities, data collection and also part of undertaking improvement and upgrade works on these assets.

As a 24/7 operation the role demands flexibility for team members in working hours and being part of an after-hours roster. Participation in the after-hours roster follows a training period. We work a 42½ hour week Monday to Sunday and you must be able to work overtime if required.

Ideally you would have:

2 – 3 years’ secondary schooling

Experience working within the 3 waters maintenance and/or installation within the construction industry, including confined spaces and working at heights

Mechanical ability

Good numeracy and literacy skills

Strong focus on integrity, health and safety and quality

Self-motivation coupled with ability to problem solve

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Full Class 1 drivers licence.

The government’s 3 Waters Reform programme aims to achieve an improved water services system that delivers safe and sustainable water for everyone in Aotearoa through the establishment of four publicly-owned water entities. This means that in June 2024 the water services currently managed by Napier City Council, and Council employees who work primarily in water services, will transfer to the new entity.
