Te Tari Pūhanga Pūrere | Department of Mechanical Engineering
- Part-time (hours negotiable up to 14 hours per week)
- Fixed-Term (i.e. 2022 academic year, February – December) position
- Evening and weekend work
Āu Mahi | What You Will Do
As Workshop Training Tutor you will provide expert training in practical mechanical engineering
workshop skills and safety practices to engineering students ensuring the proper and safe use of tools and machinery.
Mōu | Who You Are
You will have a minimum of 7 years relevant work experience as well as:
- Extensive practical experience in a mechanical workshop setting, with skills to the level of a very competent user in drilling, milling, turning, grinding, welding (MMA-stick), and hand-tools
- Ability to work independently on complex manufacturing projects
- Excellent communication skills
- Genuine interest in facilitating student learning
- A good knowledge of Health and Safety procedures, legislation and obligations to other staff,
- students and visitors
- Flexibility to deliver services outside of normal working hours (evenings)
- Preferred: Experience in MIG and gas plant
- Preferred: Teaching experience delivering practical workshop training in the proper use of machinery and hand tools
Preferably you will hold a National Certificate (NZQA Level 4) in mechanical engineering, such as machining and toolmaking, or equivalent (e.g. NZ Trade Certificate) or NZCE and a current NZ First Aid Training Certificate. Where a successful candidate does not hold the appropriate first aid certificate they will be expected and supported in obtaining this upon appointment.
