We deliver these services across four entities – Emerge Aotearoa Limited, Mind and Body Consultants Limited, Ignite Aotearoa Limited and Emerge Aotearoa Housing Trust.

We’re a team of roughly 1,200 people from all backgrounds and we’re continuing to grow.

He kōrero mō te tūranga | The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of starting and building a new youth service. Located in Hastings, in the sunny Hawkes Bay, this is a four-bed residential facility in a spacious modern property for youth between the ages of thirteen to eighteen who have mental health diagnoses and possibly challenging behaviours.

As one of our Youth Support Workers you’ll have a vital role to play. You’ll provide care and support to the young people in our residences and encourage and motivate them to make good choices. This is a genuine opportunity to positively influence young people, help them grow and successfully transition back into the community.

This is not a 9 to 5 job, our young people require wrap around support from us. This means you’ll be coaching young people through all life necessities, participating in physical activities, sports, or outdoor pursuits and supporting their studies and teaching life skills. You’ll be working as a key team member alongside Clinical, Residential, Educational and Administrative colleagues who are all committed and working hard for our young people.

This is a part-time role working 8 hours per week.

He kōrero mōu | About You

You’ll have life experience, patience, empathy and wisdom to share with the ability to do so in a way that engages youth. You’ll be the type of person that can instantly build rapport with young people who have experienced trauma and you can redirect unhelpful behaviour. Additionally, you’ll have plenty of resilience and you don’t take things personally. Your initiative and proactive approach will be highly valued in your day-to-day work. You’ll also need the flexibility to work varying shifts (mornings, evenings, weekends and public holidays included). You’ll also need:

  • A full, clean, valid driver’s licence
  • Either have or be willing to complete a level 4 Qualification in Youth Work
  • Sound judgement with the skills to manage risk and make tough decisions
  • Meet the Children’s Act safety checking and our vetting requirements
  • New Zealand citizenship or residency

Additionally, an understanding and confidence in tikanga Māori and te reo Māori would be advantageous.

Ko tā mātou mahi | We offer

  • We are a national organisation with opportunities for you to grow and develop.
  • We live by our values – which means you can take pride in not just what we achieve, but HOW we achieve it.
  • You can draw a clear line from what you do each day to the meaningful outcomes we achieve in our communities.
  • We advocate for your wellbeing! With three days of wellbeing leave on offer, and a new flexible working policy, you can proactively manage your health and wellbeing.
