Position Overview

Massey University Hospitality Services operates three cafe sites across the Wellington Campus. We are seeking an experienced Café Manager to join our team in based in Tussock Café and also oversee the operation of two coffee cart outlets.

Tussock is open Monday to Friday from 8.00 am to 4.30pm and caters to a wide range of students, staff and University visitors. This is an extremely busy location and requires someone who has managed a cafe previously and is a pro at managing a busy site with numerous staff.

The Tussock cafe kitchen also looks after all on-campus catering, so you will be working closely with our Events team and ensuring that the cafe complements and integrates smoothly with the other areas of our business.

This position is full-time (40 hours per week) and primarily Monday – Friday. There is occasionally weekend and evening work when we are hosting events, but you will mostly have very sociable hours.

Our ideal candidate will:

  • have proven experience managing a busy cafe
  • be an outstanding leader and know how to motivate, encourage, train and manage a team of staff
  • be extremely organised and have experience managing a weekly roster
  • enjoy working with a wide range of customers; including students, staff & VIPs
  • have a hospitality mindset and be comfortable working to targets and KPIs.
