Mō mātou | About us

Piki Te Ora (Southern DHB) covers the largest geographical catchment of all the DHB’s in New Zealand. We proudly strive to provide top quality healthcare to our diverse patient population, and we are now growing! Dunedin Hospital is situated in the city centre and serves a large geographical catchment area. The hospital is a teaching hospital of the University of Otago and has all major specialties. Southern DHB has 3 part time surgeons with special interest in spines covering Southern DHB as well as scoliosis surgery for all of the South Island.

We are seeking an orthopaedic surgeon with a minimum 12 months advanced fellowship training in a recognised spinal surgery unit. You will be required in providing all aspects of spinal surgery including on call paediatric and adult trauma and degenerative and deformity surgery. It is expected you will have appropriate training in paediatric scoliosis as we provide this service to patients within the South Island. An interest in research is important but not exclusive.

Applicants must have Fellowship of Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in Orthopaedics or an equivalent qualification, enabling specialist (vocational) registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.

The commencement date is negotiable. Remuneration and conditions will be based on your experience, the ASMS MECA and the recently agreed departmental job size.

Candidates who are not currently registered with the New Zealand Medical Council should be aware that it is a requirement of the NZ Medical Council that your qualifications are approved through EPIC. If you have a commitment to working in New Zealand it is highly recommended that you start this process as soon as possible so as to allow your subsequent registration to be undertaken in a timely fashion.
