Talent Search Program

Work Location: Lynn English, Lynn Classical, and Lynn Vocational Technical High Schools

Non-benefited, MCCC position, grant funded, 38-week position through May 2023

Up to 20 hours per week

TRIO TALENT SEARCH

The Talent Search program is a partnership between NSCC and Lynn Public Schools (LPS). The program identifies and assists individuals who would be the first in their family to graduate high school and whose family has limited income. The program provides academic, career, and financial counseling to its participants and encourages them to graduate from high school and continue to and complete their postsecondary education.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

Tutors for the Talent Search Program work with LPS students to conduct assessments of academic need and provide academic assistance in the designated subject area (Science). Tutors assist students in developing a systematic approach to studying that will serve them throughout their college careers.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide academic assistance in the designated Science subjects, such as: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Sciences
• Offer small group sessions on content and test-taking skills for MCAS, SAT, and other standardized tests
• Assist students in developing a systematic approach to studying that will serve them throughout their college career
• Maintain ongoing communication with and between students and TS Advisors regarding report student progress and need for services
• Keep detailed and accurate documentation for grant records, including students served, time spent, specific subject taught, student progress, and materials/tools used
• Perform other duties as assigned consistent with the position of a professional tutor.

Requirements:

• A Bachelor’s degree is required, Master’s preferred
• Familiarity with Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and MCAS 2.0 helpful
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, strong computing skills
• Demonstrated knowledge of learning styles and learning needs and various methods for addressing these dimensions of student learning
• Demonstrated sensitivity towards and passion and commitment to working with students and staff of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, different levels of academic preparation, or/and varying physical and learning abilities; experience preferred
• Candidates will be required to pass a CORI/SORI and a National background check as a condition of employment

COVID VACCINATION REQUIREMENT:
Candidates for employment should be aware that all North Shore Community College students, faculty and staff are required to be fully vaccinated by January, 2022. Additional Information:

SALARY: $30.03 per hour, non-benefited, grant funded position. Up to 20 hours/ week.
