Permanent part-time position working 17.5 hours per week

Situated in an attractive recreation reserve, the Napier Aquatic Centre includes indoor heated pools, spa pools and 2 fully covered water slides. The complex is open every day, all year round, and offers a ‘Learn-to-Swim’ programme, school holiday programmes, and a range of recreational activities and events.

We are looking for an exceptional person to work with us as the pool’s Receptionist. This is a permanent part-time role working 17.5 hours per week. You may be asked at times to cover other shifts for leave etc, so some flexibility is required.

As the first person our customer sees, we need someone who with a warm and friendly personality, with a strong customer service focus. You will have excellent verbal communication skills, including great telephone skills, and be a cooperative team player with flexibility and willingness to go the extra mile.


Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Responding to all enquiries and giving accurate information
  • Having up to date knowledge about the Centre’s facilities and services.
  • Maintaining a bookings register for the usage of the Centre.
  • Performing cashier duties and general administrative tasks as required.
  • Contributing to the ongoing pro-active support of health and safety strategies and policies


To be successful in this role you will have the following skills:

  • Previous experience and demonstrated a high level of competence in a busy customer service environment (preferably in the retail sector).
  • Accurate and speedy cash handling skills, and experience with electronic cash registers.
  • General clerical and administrative skills, with basic computer literacy.

It is a requirement of Napier City Council that only those workers who are fully vaccinated (i.e. have completed an NZ Government recognised course of COVID-19 vaccination and can provide an electronic copy or screenshot of a Government endorsed Vaccine Pass to demonstrate this) will be able to carry out work at Napier City Council workplace or represent Napier City Council in public. You need to be aware that you will be required to attach a copy of your COVID-19 Vaccination Pass as part of the application process.
