Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
The University’s Office of Research Strategy and Integrity (ORSI) is seeking an enthusiastic and collaborative Research Portfolio Coordinator to join their busy team on a full-time, fixed term basis for 10 months to cover someone on secondment.
As a successful candidate, you will contribute to the success of the University’s research and researchers by providing advice and support on national and international research prize and award opportunities and internal research funding. You will also be involved in a range of strategic projects being delivered as part of the Research and Innovation Operating Plan.

The Office of Research Strategy and Integrity (ORSI) was established in 2018 to support the work of the Deputy Vice Chancellor Research and the University’s Research Committee in:
- developing and implementing initiatives to give effect to Taumata Teitei – Vision 2030 and Strategic Plan 2025;
- facilitating a vibrant, productive and ethical research environment;
- shaping the University’s response to a changing research landscape;
- and enhancing the University’s standing as a research-intensive, world-leading institution.
He kōrero mōu | About you
Our ideal candidate will bring the following:
- Tertiary degree or equivalent experience in research management
- Strong project and/or planning, coordinating and ability to prioritise to meet deadlines
- Stakeholder management skills and a service-oriented approach
- Demonstrated understanding of the tertiary research environment
Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills
The main responsibilities of the role include:
- Working with the ORSI team and other key stakeholders (e.g. Associate Deans (Research), Research Services Managers, UniServices and the Research Operations Centre) to support the administration of internal funding and delivery of key strategic projects
- Coordinating and facilitating various high-profile initiatives and events.
- Supporting the development and implementation of the external prizes and awards strategy.
- Developing and overseeing application and selection round processes for internal funding and awards.
- Facilitating and informing process improvement initiatives, particularly for internal funding and awards.
