This is a Part-Time (20 hours per week) Fixed Term Role for a 6-month period

Reporting to the Strategy and Partnership Manager, you will:

  • Support the development and implementation of Council’s strategy.
  • Have in-depth and up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and proposed legislative changes, central government and regional initiatives and partnership issues.
  • Provide advice and support across the organisation.
  • Contribute to the coordination and facilitation of reference groups of experts relevant to specific projects or programmes of work.
  • Contribute to the delivery of key projects and programmes of work within Strategy & Partnership.
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of processes, tools and frameworks within Strategy & Partnership.
  • Identify, actively build new, and maintain existing, external partnerships and relationships to deliver long-term mutual benefit in alignment with Environment Southland’s strategy.

The relationship between Environment Southland and our customers is at the heart of this highly varied role. You will be required to continually evaluate the tools and processes we use to engage with our customers and the way we listen and respond to our people and communities, so a genuine commitment to ensuring high-quality customer care is paramount.


Other skills and attributes required are:

  • Demonstrated knowledge to fulfil requirements of the Key Result Areas specified for this position
  • 10 years experience in relevant roles that include relationship management and strategic advice.
  • Highly developed written and oral communication skills and an ability to communicate with a wide variety of groups and individuals.
  • Strong programme and project management skills.
  • Ability and confidence to present reports or information in Council and other public forums.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification is required for this role.

An initial offer of remuneration will be made within the range $83,000 to $92,000 (Full-time equivalent) Per annum.
