About us/Mō mātou

Since 2019 Te Puna Pāpori has brought together staff and students across eight programmes in Te Kete Aronui, including the Social Anthropology Programme/Te Mātai Tikaka Takata. Amongst other teachings, Te Mātai Tikaka Takata coordinates Modules 1 & 2 of Population Health (POPH) 192, a large Health Science First Year paper that includes epidemiology, Indigenous health and the Humanities views of health.

The role/Te mahi

An opportunity is available for a Teaching Fellow to join the Module 2 (Indigenous health) teaching team. Around half of the teaching work will occur in semester two over an eight-week period of nearly full-time work to support the tutorial programme of Module 2 and the marking of the related progress test essay. The remainder of the work is scheduled throughout the year.

Key tasks will include:

  • Marking, moderating and providing feedback on student essays.
  • Delivering Module 2 tutorials and Zoom helpdesks.
  • Act as first point of contact for Module 2 tutors, including running training sessions.

Your skills and experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako

The applicant must:

  • Have a Bachelor degree in a relevant field.
  • Have an understanding of Māori and/or Pacific culture.
  • Be fluent or willing to learn te reo Māori.
  • Be able to work as part of a team.
The ideal candidate will:

  • Be fluent in te reo Māori.
  • Have recent experience teaching Module 2 of POPH192.
  • Have experience with essay marking.

This is a permanent, part-time, variable hours position (9.5 – 11 hours per week), located in Dunedin.
